Language of Film - English - Hurumanu

In our lesson in English, we are studying about films and it highlights all the sections of it. We are trying to identify the languages of films using visual and sound techniques. 

This shows my learning because, through this blog post, it shows that I have understood it on a deeper level. 

Body Language: 

Body Language and gestures are important in films and are necessary because it is used by the characters to express their emotions and what they are feeling, it also shows what they are thinking, because it’s an important part of communication. 

Costumes: 

Costumes are important because it describes what kind of personality the character has. It also tells a story, it helps the actors to transform. It makes it realistic and believable for the audience. 

Hairstyles: 

Just like costumes, hairstyles are important as well because it adds authenticity to the characters, it makes it believable and it also tells a story. 

Make up:

Similar to the costumes and hairstyles, makeup is one of the important things in films because it is a way to improve and enhance the mood, appearance and personality of the actors. 

Colour: 

It is used because it sways the thought, changes the action and it causes reactions. It also setups the mood of the scenes.

Lighting: 

Lighting is important in film because it determines the mood of a particular scene and it allows the scene to become more dramatic and realistic. 

Props: 

Props are important because it makes the story or film more alive, it draws the audience’s attention, it can help show the character’s personality. 

Settings: 

Settings give context to the character’s actions storyline. It helps create a moody and romantic scene. It determines where it is set and how the story will go. 

Dialogue: 

Dialogue is important because it creates a better understanding between the characters and also the audience, it reveals the character’s personality and their depth. 

Sound Effects:

Sound effects are important because it engages the audience, it attracts their attention. It adds a mood and it can help to connect with the audience and their feelings.  

Music: 

Music is used in the film to capture the audience’s emotions and it can help them inspire those feelings. Music gives us clues on what the character is feeling. It also creates a perfect atmosphere along with the settings. 

Silence: 

Absences and silence make the scene feel more important and with that, it will capture the audience attention. 

Symbols:

Symbols are important and are used in films because they create a unique language of metaphors and it is used to suggest ideas. It helps us to understand that “actions speak louder than words.” 

Special FX: 

Special FX are used in films and videography because it helps clean errors in scenes and it makes the scene more appealing to the audience.
