"Massive Pear" - Visual Art

We have been learning about miniature figures by "Slinkachu". The different techniques and angles and shots that are used effectively to make the figures realistic.

About Slinkachu's work (consider its purpose, how it is made, how it is viewed, and why it is interesting and valuable).

He has a big imagination and is very passionate about art. His art is not drawing on a paper but using miniature figures and small objects to create a scene which he takes photography shot with. His figurines come already made, most of them are made by a German company ‘Preiser’, some can be bought by model shops and online. He would also customise some them, adding elements such as colour - painting those mini-figures, moulding the figures using modelling clays, changing its leg and arm position. For some people, it may be viewed as ‘odd’ but it’s also interesting and intriguing because those kind of artworks are not common in this generation, not a lot of people would think of that idea. The interesting thing about his artwork is that he used small objects that are often seen as less valuable or important. I can tell he is a person who is innovative, someone who thinks outside the box, an intelligent and creative person. One of his photograph/art, he used a bag of Cheetos with Cheetos inside, there were also 5 figurines and one was holding up a flashlight or torch. It's valuable because it’s rare to see someone do that kind of artwork and it can even be displayed at a museum.

Some of Slinkachu's Works

Cast Away (Obonjan, Croatia, 2016)

Life As We Know It (Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent, 2016)

Bank Balance (Chiswick, London, 2013)

Developing Ideas

Develop your own visual ideas in response to Slinkachu's work. Use your imagination to combine small figures with aspects of your school environment and objects in your immediate surroundings. Remember that you are creating your own work, not recreating a work by Slinkachu. Develop your own ideas in drawings and trial photographs.

Work

This is my own artwork, the compositions that are in my work is an Asian Pear and small figurines. I used blu tack to stick the miniature people on the background, The background, I used a white paper. I used a blank white paper because it brings out the colour more and also it creates shadows.

The story of the Enormous Pear

"In the world of humans, a massive unknown object has fallen from the sky, it triggered the people's curiosity and so they went towards it. Everybody talked about it, some said it was from the "Gods" while others said it is a sign of bad luck. The gossip has spread and the message went to the leader.  "Do not fear, for I am here to protect my people" the leader said."

Reflection

The term will finally end, that means, works will be needed to finish. Speaking of work, I have finished my work in Visual Arts. I've learnt a lot of techniques from a semester in visual arts and I'm glad that even though I don't know much about arts and photography, I was able to learn properly.

'Unnatural Wonder' - Visual Arts

In our lesson in Visual Arts, we were introduced to 'Slinkachu', who is an artist that creates one of the most bizarre artwork. (Read to find out the reason why it's bizarre)

Three pieces of information about Slinkachu's work: consider its purpose, how it is made, how it is viewed, and why it is interesting and valuable.

He has a big imagination and is very passionate about art. His art is not drawing on a paper but using miniature figures and small objects to create a scene which he takes photography shot with. Art Composition - Visual Arts

Today, I've finished the task we needed to get done and published on our blog. The task was taking photographic images that contrast the art compositions, such as focal point, leading lines, etc. After taking the images, we needed to each put them on a slideshow presentation and explain how we've used the techniques.

Conclusion: I am satisfied with the amount of effort I've put into my work, I think that I've put all the required information needed in the slides. I've explained my work in details and I was specific with my explanation. Therefore, it showed that I've learnt a lot and was able to show my understanding through this presentation.

The Soldier - Visual Arts

Yesterday, we started to look at taking photographs of small figures such as little toys. Our task was to take photos of a toy soldier that was as small as our pinkies. We went outside the learning street which was our art class is, we used the plants as our setting where we will stand or put the soldier figures to make a scene.

As you can see here we used the point of view of the soldier looking at its surroundings, this is called the "Over the Shoulder" shot.

We used a different kind of elements and objects to make the scene more appealing and astonishing. The purpose of this is to show the audience that we can use our skills and knowledge with only a little amount of materials and money free photograph. In addition to what elements and objects we used, we used the whole of the paintbrush, we used the background of a computer that was mountains and landscapes, we used the paintings of other students in Hornby High as our setting of photography, we even used a plastic bag because light reflects on the plastic, this is why the soldier with the black and white filter has a polished look.

I personally like these three because I think I applied the rule of thirds on this image, the plastic bag also made this pop out and instead of just using a black and white filter and just a soldier, using a plastic bag confound.

The Composition of Art - Visual Arts

What is Focal point, Leading lines, Balance, Symmetry and Asymmetry, and Rule of Thirds?

The focal point is where the art is focused on, where the viewer's eye is naturally drawn to, the first thing they see or attracted to.

Symmetry or symmetrical is where the lines or compositions are equal and balanced, the sides of an object are the same.

Asymmetry is where the lines are not equal, the opposite of symmetry, the lines and compositions are not the same.

Rule of thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines to create a grid. This is useful and it helps to position the image at the intersected points so that you can produce a more natural image.

This is the art that I made because our art teacher, Mr Collins told us to produce a quick art where there are grids for the rule of thirds. This is will help us to understand and make the art ourselves.

As you've noticed, there are scribbles on the paper, those scribbles are meant to be the massive rocks.

The elements in my drawing are the mat, book, big rocks, sand, water from the ocean. This is set on the beach.

The Three Women - Visual Arts

For the past few weeks, we’ve had Visual Arts, we have been learning about “Photomontage”. Photomontage is an art formed by glueing, cutting, enlarging, shrinking, repeating varieties of images in order to make a meaningful artwork. In this topic, the first activity we did was collaging odd images with familiar images, now we did this in real life instead of doing it digitally. I cut the images, stuck it all together to make a confined art. After doing that activity for two weeks, we now made a digital one. We brainstormed ideas for what images we could use, now these ideas are from what represents us such as our favourite things, hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc. We had to make a scrapbook but digitally, the scrapbooks have to be in “Google Drawing”. After making the scrapbook, using ideas from there on our actual collage. I’ve made a total of two.

We are learning this because we need to have a knowledge of art and in this way, we can understand how artists work, how their mind works, where they got their inspiration from. We are learning this because taking this lesson in the near future of what are careers or job is going to be. It’s also for experience and having fun.

We can show our learning through revising what we have learnt, we can screenshot it to show evidence that we’ve understood the concept of it. We can also create a screencastify explaining and showing how to make the art piece.

My learning went really well, my knowledge in art has expanded. I have understood the arts' meaning and its purpose. I now know art techniques and skills, how one matter affects another one, colours and shapes, even small objects.

This is the Photomontage created by me, I call this piece "The Three Women", the focal point are the three women.

What is a "Photomontage?" - Visual Arts

In Visual Arts, we have finished our photomontage work, the first week, we researched different types of photographies. We were then given photos that had been printed and were asked to make our own photomontage. Everyone was really creative and I was amazed by how photos that you never expect to see in an artwork can actually make a beautiful one. You could say I now have more knowledge with photomontage and I understand it a bit.

What is a "Photomontage?"
It is an art that contains varieties of photos that has been cut and glued and arranged in an organised manner and present it to tell the viewers a story.

This is the photomontage that I made

Visual Arts

What is "Digital Photography?"

Digital Photography is a form of photography that captures images by using a camera.

How does a "Digital Camera" work?

Digital cameras give you more control on the exposure, filter, hue, size of your image, you can also download it and print it as you please.

Visual Arts

What is a "Staged Photography?" and "Is it real?"

No, it's not real. It is a photographic image where you arranger figures or people in order to interpret or visualise an event or scene. Photographers try to make it realistic.
