Passion Project Blogpost

I have finished carving the last stone, I carved 3 stones. I'm really happy because I finally finished it, today I'm making a blog post about what I have accomplished.
I have accomplished on making the shape right and even, I've also accomplished on filing, sanding the stone with a yellow sandpaper and after that, I used a white sandpaper to finish it off.

My favourite part was everything, I was really having fun on what I was doing and I was also focused.

The challenging part was trying to get it in shape, sanding it and making it smooth as possible. A challenge is like a test to see how you can trough it.

What the teachers could've done better is helping, sometimes I struggle to get ideas and my next steps.

My final comment/thought is that I really like stone carving because I think that you get to learn a lot of stuff from it and you get to experience carving.  You also get to use some tools that you probably haven't used before.

I would like to do stone carving next year too or maybe some other projects so I can try something different.

Today, Mr Mitchell went around and drilled holes for some of us for our design, our design is He Matau (Fish Hook), I also started adding details to make more like a 3-dimensional design and to add some texture to it.

Tools I used: cheese grater for stones, file, rasp, flat chisel, hammer/mallet, pencil, sandpapers and etc.#

Personal Comment:

Even though our clothes got dirty, it was worth it though, because our hard world always pays off, it'll be worth it in the end. Some of us broke their stone but they can always change it into something even better.  Some designs don't have to be perfect, but it can be wonderful just the way it is, we just have to focus on the progress, not perfection.  

My next steps: I need to work on the hole and the shaping.

Feedback to me, myself, and I: I really like my design because I worked really hard on it. I am actually pretty proud of myself.

Today was the day when we finished carving, filing and etc. I finished the koru and we're starting doing a new one, a fish hook.  I really liked how my koru turned out and I was also starting to like the fish hook too.

We're going to continue on the fish hook on Monday because we needed time to finish it. I've also learnt something, not to carve too much of the stone because it might and if it breaks, you'll have to make the design smaller.

Monday

Today, we had to start sanding the stone with a sandpaper, we have to use the yellow first before the white one. Mine was really smooth, well it's stone so, it's can't really be that smooth as those professional ones.

We spent the last hour here in J1 to do our plan, our final plan actually, for our big stone.  I came up with a "Pikorua Twist".
Pikorua Twist symbolises the bond between two people, whether it's based on love, blood and friendship. It connects the spirits of lovers, family and friends, it also represents their life path.

There is also a Koru inside the twist, I'll show a picture later, anyway, Koru represents harmony, new life, growth and strength.

On my paper, my design (and the meaning) also says how it's related to me and HHS (Hornby High School).

I'm really proud of my drawing, I think it's really clean, pure and amazing. I can't wait to carve my design on the stone.

Passion Project (Stone Art: Carving) Update

Every Thursday, we come to school at 9:40, well that's our school time but we can go earlier than that to school, until the end of the term. We carved a koru out of a stone, it's one of those soft stone that you use for carving. Monday was when we started carving and working, it was pretty fun, there's no school tomorrow because it's holiday! Anyway back to the carving thing, we almost finish the stone.  I designed a Maori Design, I have two choices, it could either be a Mangopare (Hammerhead) and a Pikorua (Twist).
