Mac n Cheese - Home Economics

On Wednesday, we made Macaroni and Cheese (Mac n Cheese). There were 3 people in our group.

The ingredients were:

  • Tomato
  • Ham
  • Onion
  • Corn Starch
  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Butter
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)
  • Macaroni Pasta
  • Water
  • Bread Crumbs
Steps/Method:

1. Diced half an onion, cut the ham in squares, grate the cheese, chop the tomatoes.

2. Heat up the pan, after the pan has become hot, add the butter, let the butter melt.

3. Add the minced onions, wait until the colour of the onion turns to brown.

4. Add the cornstarch and stir it.

5. Pour the milk gradually, stir it while pouring the milk little by little.

6. Remove the pan from the heat. Add in the grated cheese but make sure to leave a little bit for the toppings.

7. Add a pinch of salt and pepper.

8. The water should've been boiling the moment you've heated the pan, add the macaroni in with salt.

9. Strain the water then add the pasta in the sauce and stir it.

10. Put it in a baking bowl, add the ham and the tomatoes and cheese then sprinkle bread crumbs on top of it to finish it off.

11. Bake it at 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes and you'll be done.

Rate:
I would rate it a 9/10 just because I've never seen tomatoes or tried mac n cheese with tomatoes so it's a bit weird for me, I found it odd because the tomato gave the mac n cheese a sour taste to it so it overpowered the cheesiness.

  1. A good comment about the tomatoes. They can be added to give the dish some colour. This is not the best season for tomatoes so I am not surprised they were very acidic. Can you think of any thing else you could add to this dish?
How was the roux sauce? This is the main skill you learnt in this lesson.
I am pleased to see how your group works together.
