SLJ What it's like to go to school in Japan

What is it like to go to school in Japan?

  • The school year starts when Sakura Blossoms, it starts in April and finishes in March.
  • Their dress code is strict when it comes to their students, students don't wear make-up, nail polish, and piercing, even hair and nail length.
  • In Japan there are storage cubes where you can put your shoes on, you aren't allowed to wear your shoes when you're in the classroom, you wear your socks instead and you put your shoes in a storage cube.
  • In school in Japan, you clean your own classroom, there aren't really janitors in some of the school that's why if you make a mess, you clean it.
  • In Japan, if you want to go in an office or you want to talk to someone in the office, you knock and say "Excuse me" it's a way of showing respect to someone.
  • In Japan, there aren't big cafeterias there so you bring a bento instead, bento is a lunch with heaps of delicious traditional Japanese food, it doesn't have to traditional though.
  • There are also club activities that you can join like the ping-pong club, cheerleading, kendo and etc.
  • They also do Physical Education like other schools.
  • When a teacher comes in the classroom, everyone stands up, bows and greet their teacher, they "Ohayoo" informal way to say good morning or "Ohayoo gozaimasu" a formal way to say good morning. This is a link where you can find other greetings in Japanese LINK.
Schedule/timetable:

School starts at 8, first, twenty minutes is reading or homeroom activities. The first period starts at 8:30-8:40. In Japan there are six periods usually other schools in other countries have 5 periods but it's different in Japan. Every period has 45 minutes for elementary and in junior classes, they have 50 minutes or more. After that, they eat their lunch, after they eat their lunch, they usually clean up for ten to twenty minutes. Sometimes for the last period, they do club activities.

  1. Hi skyler i like your post i love how the layout made it easy to read.I must say as much as i like japan i wouldn't like to go to school there they sound so strict especially if your hair and nails have to be a certain length. Maybe next time for the time schedule make one on google drawing kinda like the ones we have at school because they give the readers a better idea of their schedule. Anyway i love your post and excited to see more.
