Solar Energy

Catching the sun movie



Materials:


  1.  Cups x4
  2.  Water
  3.  Tinfoil
  4.  2 sheets of white paper
  5.  1 sheet of black paper 
  6.  Thermometer
  7.  1 large cup
  8.  1 heat lamp

Steps

  1. Collect your materials, fill the 4 cups with water, 3/4 each cups
  2. Using the large cup, choose one of the small cups to put the large cup on, to cover it
  3. The cup with the large cup covering it, put it on top of one of the white paper
  4.  Put one of the cup on the white paper again, you'll have two cups left, put one of the cup left on the foil, for the last cup, put it on the black paper
  5.  Put the paper and foils close together, light up the cups just 20cm away  from the cups
  6.  Using a thermometer, measure the temperature of the water after 15 minutes after you checked that, wait for 30 minutes and then after that, wait for 45 minutes. When measuring the temperature, make sure you leave it for 2 minutes.

Findings:

I found out that the cup on the tin foil conducts more heat than the rest of the cup. 


Conclusion:


We did the experiment in the corner of the classroom. Each and one of us in my group took turns measuring the temperature of the water. The surfaces of the cups (where we put the cups on top of, a white paper for example) were next to each other. The cups of the tinfoil conducts more heat, it's like putting tinfoil in the oven, once it gets heated, it's gets warm, and we were using a heat lamp.
