Charlesworth Reserve Planting

Wednesday, July 3 2019

Yesterday was the day where we plant trees and bushes, before waiting for the other classes to come in our classroom, we read the Novel Trash by Andy Mulligan. After they have come to the class, we talked about showing our values and what is expected about our behaviour. We rode a bus to go to Charlesworth Reserve, we came with Mrs Allan, Mr Tisch, Whaea Jo, Rachel, Villy and Andre, after we have arrived at our destination, the teachers told us to eat our morning tea, we sat on the grass and ate there, after a couple of minutes, we went and took a 3-5 minutes to walk to where we're actually planting.

There weren't enough spades for everyone so we decided to share, we also had to wear gloves. And off we go, we were going to get muddy and messy well, it is expected since we're going to plant. But before we plant we had to sit for 5 minutes and Andrew told us about the history of Charlesworth reserve and the plants we are about to plant. We have the sea rush, that's the only plant I remembered he said. Our aim is to plant 100 plants for the native animals to live in.
The spades were really heavy, I decided to partner up with Axle who had a spade because Lhysette and Rieya didn't have one, I told Axle's friend if they could lend one to Rieya or Lhysette so the both of them can partner up.

And they did, thankfully. We had to plant in an area where a small potted plant is placed, Axle's was the one who's digging and I'm the one who puts the plant in the hole and covered it with sand, but of course we had to remove the soil with the plant from the small pot in order to plant it. It was difficult to remove and we had to do it carefully since the plants were very easy to destroy. After we finished planting it we both went to the next one, it was really fun because we found a lot of baby crabs and shells, it was cute, if it was a big crab, it'd be scary but since it's a baby grab it's okay if they pinch you but it sad at the same time because there were dead crabs that we found as well.

I posted about the history of Charlesworth Reserve in my previous blog about Charlesworth Reserve but I'm going to put it here anyway

After a planting, we ate our lunch and head off to a huge field near Mitre 10, we picked up rubbish and put it in a black rubbish bag, it was fun searching around the field since it was really huge, we found a lot of rubbish that were hidden in the bushes.
