Freeze Frames

On Tuesday, we did a very interesting activity that involves Hauora called "Freeze Frames", our wellbeing. Mental and Emotional Wellbeing (Taha Hinengaro), Social Wellbeing (Taha Whanau), Physical Wellbeing (Taha Tinana), and Spiritual Wellbeing (Taha Wairua).

Freeze Frames is an activity where there's a still image that is used to illustrate an event/situation/event/occasion.

We were told to make a group 4, our group chose Physical Wellbeing because we thought that it's the easiest and we had a lot of ideas in mind what to do.

Investigate the different Fossil Fuels listed

1. Coal - Coal have been used for thousands of years, they help people but it does the opposite to the world. One example is it's used for factories and making fire, it causes air pollution, it will make our ozone layer thinner and there's a big possibility that it will cause acid rain. It's also used to generate electricity.

Write a paragraph and upload an image about each of these renewable energies.

Solar  - Solar panels - To use solar panels, how it works, it needs sunlight (UV rays) to make or to generate electricity

Wind -  Windmill - Windmills are used to generate power, like electricity. It's used for farms too, it lifts the water from the underground layer (aquifer) to water the crops.

Waves -  Water wave  - Wave power is to capture the energy of the water to generate electricity, water desalination.

Hydro - Hydroelectric power - It's fueled by water which doesn't pollute water or the air, it's a cleaner way,  it's a source of energy and it relies on the water cycle which is driven by the sun. It has the ability to generate electricity. it improves the air we breathe because it doesn't cause pollution like other fueled sources.

Write a reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect

I've learnt that climate makes a big impact on the world and the people, how it destroys nature. I've learnt that people, we should start doing something, we should change the way we treat the environment, how we use our resources. It affects people's health, people get sick, it affects people's home, they'll get destroyed and people won't have a home to live in. It affects our food, we won't have anything to eat, the crops will get destroyed.

Tangaroa - Game

We've been working on our game for the past few weeks, the game has to be about an environmental issue that links to our Kaitiaki. We were taught how to code first them making a game, we have three resources we can choose from such as Gamefroot, Scratch, and Applab. I chose Tangaroa as my Kaitiaki, I chose water pollution and habitat destruction as an environmental issue that is linked to my Kaitiaki.

Reflection:

I learnt how to challenge myself by trying different type of sites to make my game from, it was hard at first because I haven't used those sites before and I'm new. It was also hard because there is a lot of stuff you need to understand.

I need to work on my plan more for my game because my game did not really turn out the way I want it to look like but I fixed it right away, there were a few changes. I'm not that pleased with my game but I'm proud because I got to learn how to make a game and made one myself.

I made a lot of mistakes such as using the wrong templates and making mistakes is okay because it taughts you lessons to improve on your skill and ability, it's part of growing up and developing a growth mindset.

I learnt how to make a game, to do coding. I've also realised that it takes a lot of time and hard work to make a game. I thought that making a game is easy but I thought wrong. We should learn how to appreciate a game because the maker takes a lot of time making it just to make money and to show their creativity to people, to earn recognition.

What I worked hard today is finishing my game on time, planning my game and making my game. It took me a lot of time, effort and hard work to make my game.

I enjoyed making a game because I now know how to make a game, it's also fun because we get to try out different templates and we even get to play or try out our game and our friend's game. These experiences might even help me in the future and I can teach people how to make a game and pass it on. It taught me how to make the right decisions by making mistakes and learning from them.

Chemistry - Forgeries

Today at Science we did something that also relates to Forensics, it's the handwriting. We were asked to write a signature on a piece of paper and a friend has to copy our signature. Then we put dots on every corner or end of the letters on our own signature and the copy of the signature that our friend had done. We used a tracing paper to trace the dots and compared the two together.

Graphologists are forensic experts who look at handwriting.

Aim: To Analyse a signature using forensic science.

Material:

A pen / pencil
Tracing Paper
Writing paper
A ruler

Steps:

A. Top Of Letter Analysis

1. Sign your name on a sheet of writing paper and get someone else to try to copy it.
2. Place the tracing paper over both signatures and make a dot at the top point of each letter – for both signatures.
3. Join up the dots for both signatures to get two zigzag lines across the signatures. Are the lines the same?

B. Bottom of Letter Analysis

1. Put some fresh tracing paper over both signatures.
2. Put a dot at the bottom of each letter.
3. Join up the dots to make zig zag lines. Are the lines the same?

C. Slant Analysis

1. Put a fresh piece of tracing paper over both signatures.
2. Mark a vertical line down through the middle of each letter (using a ruler), slanting it in the same direction as
the letter.
3. Compare the set of lines for both signatures. 
What do they tell you.

Conclusion:

I learnt what the signatures of others are telling me. It was fun to talk with my friends about each other's signature. There were some struggles but we managed to get through it.

Tane Mahuta

I am part of the Tane Mahuta Group
Our job is to make the world a better place, taking care of our environment.
Today we went around the places where there were trees around and areas that needed plants and shades. My favourite area of the school is the picnic table where big trees that gives it shades for people. My best idea to improve our school is recycling the plastics and using them for art or a project, thinking big and letting our imagination change the plastic. Also planting fruits and vegetables, it could be our food resources for Food Tech. We could also plant more bushes and trees for people who wants to eat under trees and also for the birds to live in and also for oxygens. We could also plant flowers just to make our school a little bit prettier and just bright and colourful.

CIP - Gardening

Wednesday, 3rd of April, 2019

Today, we did our CIP (Community Impact Project) activities. We were given a selection to choose from, on what activity we want to do. There were Jam, Compost and Gardening, the people who chose Jam will be creating a poster to advertise the jams that they made and the jam was homemade, they made it themselves. The people who chose compost, picked up rubbish around the school to help our environment, to make the world a better place. For the gardening people, they picked up weeds from their roots and put it in a bin, now that the area is clean, the year 7 and 8's will be planting seeds in that area to grow some vegetables, fruits or something else. We are doing this to make a big impact on the school and besides, we had fun picking up weeds and helping our community.

Column DLO - Addition & Subtraction

My maths group have been doing a strategy to solve an addition and subtraction problem, we all find the columns really easy than doing number line, breaking the numbers into their place values.

I made a DLO about the strategy I really love to do when doing addition and subtraction for maths. I picked the column one since it's my favourite and it's the easiest way to solve an addition and subtraction equation/problem. 

This DLO is for the people, who don't know the column strategy but I'm sure that pretty much everyone knows this strategy, it's also for the people who don't understand. This DLO is for helping people out when they're struggling with their maths. I hope you learn something from my DLO and use it in the future.
