The Vietnam War - Social Studies

 What is the Vietnam War all about? The Vietnam War, also known as the "Second Indochina War" was a controversial conflict fought between South and North Vietnam, from the 1st of November, 1955, up until the 30th of April, 1975. 

What were the 3 main causes of the Vietnam War? 

  • The spread of communism during the Cold War.
  • American containment.
  • European imperialism in Vietnam.

Who is Ho Chi Minh? 

Born in a village in central Vietnam (Nghe An province)  May 19, 1890

Ho Chi Minh (Nguyen Sinh Cung) was famous as the prime minister of North Vietnam and was also a revolutionary communist leader. Ranking the most successful and influential politician in the 20th century. 

Why did the US join Vietnam in the war? The US fought in the war because they wanted to prevent the spread of communism. 

How long did America fight in Vietnam? They fought for 19 years. 

Did America lose to Vietnam? America didn't lose to Vietnam, rather, they retreated back to their country due to the massive amount of loss they had, they lost approximately 60,000 soldiers in the war.
